Before looking at these websites I didn't know much about the South Dakota Legislatures. I learned that Legislators can come from all walks of life; not just the rich or famous. There are teachers, homemakers, and doctors. In years past, farmers and ranchers dominated the Legislature. In more recent years, there are still plenty of legislators involved in agriculture, but there are plenty of others in different pursuits. Among the legislators elected in 1999, for example, those engaged in business outnumber those involved in agriculture. Another one‑fifth of them is in a profession.
I learnedwho oour state legiswlatures our adn the origin of bills. I also learned how to make a bill and the process it has to go through to become a law. I learned the legislative structure and organization. The charts and images helped me see how everything worked. The website helped a lot.
